Fate’s scientific founders have identified and characterized key stem cell pathways, such as Wnt, Hedgehog and Notch, which are known to regulate cell fate and play key roles in tissue repair and regeneration and iPS cell creation.
Our growing understanding of the pathways that can specifically activate and modulate adult stem cells in the body to repair and regenerate tissues has become important for new points for therapeutic intervention.
We also now know through the creation of iPS cells that any cell, like a skin cell, can take on a different fate to proliferate, differentiate or change function.
Research into ways to safely, efficiently and reproducibly create and differentiate iPS cells into specific cell types will not only yield personalized cell replacement therapies but also new ways to modulate cell fate that may be applicable to activating adult stem cells in the body to treat disease.
